Dr. Lovell is a dentist who specializes in headache, orofacial pain management and dental sleep medicine. She completed a neurology headache fellowship at the prestigious Jefferson Headache Center at the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Lovell previously completed a two-year post dental school graduate residency program in orofacial pain at the UCLA School of Dentistry. She is a graduate of the inaugural dental class of the Arizona School of Dentistry and Oral Health affiliated with A.T. Still University in Mesa, AZ.

Dr. Lovell’s focus is on treating and managing all aspects of chronic refractory headache disorders such as migraines, tension-type headaches, cluster headaches, post-traumatic headaches, occipital neuralgia, etc. In addition, she treats patients with orofacial pain conditions including musculoskeletal pain (TMD/TMJ), atypical tooth pain, trigeminal neuralgia, and neurovascular and neuropathic pain. She fabricates TMJ appliances, and dental sleep appliances for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring.

She is experienced in Botox injections for migraines, intra-articular injections, trigger point injections, and nerve blocks in the head. Dr. Lovell is frequently invited to speak at headache and dental conferences in addition to pharmaceutical sessions.

The Keeler Center for Headache & Orofacial Pain offers more than just headache treatment and management

Dr. Lovell is uniquely qualified to provide custom-made dental sleep apnea appliances. If the patient has mild to moderate sleep apnea, this is a great alternative to the standard CPAP mask and machine. A patient who has severe sleep apnea would also benefit if they cannot tolerate or wear the CPAP due to discomfort issues. A dental sleep apnea appliance can provide an option that isn’t as constricting, cumbersome and claustrophobic. Dr. Lovell can also make these dental appliances for individuals who don’t have sleep apnea but who snore and do not want to disturb their bed partner.

Dr. Lovell is very thorough in evaluating musculoskeletal pain that may contribute to headaches. She evaluates lifestyle modifications that could help with jaw, neck, back and shoulder pain and tightness. She offers suggestions to reduce pain, and discusses the possibility of trigger point injections into the troublesome muscles to relieve tension and tightness.

Dr. Lovell also explores and treats patients who have pain with their jaw (TMJ/TMD: temporomandibular joint/temporomandibular disorder). Many individuals don’t have to suffer any longer. Dr. Lovell has strategic plans and ideas to help with the pain that may be separate from, or contributing to, the headaches. She can fabricate TMJ appliances that will help with clenching or grinding, which can contribute to TMJ/TMD pain or headaches. She also is effective with joint injections into the jaw.

Dr. Lovell is particularly good at evaluating and analyzing the whole picture and how the head, neck, and TMJ may or may not contribute to your overall headache pain. With her pleasant and positive demeanor, she spends the time necessary to evaluate and make decisions in order to improve her patients’ health and well-being.
